I’m a retiree in Adelaide who has been managing several chronic health conditions for the past few years. I think it’s safe to say that things haven’t been going great for me. I’ve been noticing my conditions becoming more challenging as I’ve gotten older, and I’m definitely ready to admit that I need some extra support.
I’ve been weighing up different options such as moving in with a family member, but I really don’t want to be a burden. Besides, I do want to maintain an element of independence in my life. I think I’d benefit most from a trusted community nursing service in the Adelaide area.
Over the last week I’ve spent time reaching out to various local community services that offer home visits and ongoing care management. I’m pleased to say that I have found a service that has the capacity to give me the level of support I need. To begin the care program, a registered nurse paid a visit to my home for an initial consultation. She conducted a full assessment of my health and used this to determine which areas of my life needed the most support.
I now receive regular visits from an NDIS service care nurse who helps me manage my conditions more effectively. The nurse is helping me better understand my condition so I can take steps to keep everything under control.
The support I am receiving is invaluable and I am starting to feel more confident in living alone and managing my health. I used to feel held back by conditions and it’s amazing to no longer have to feel like this. I’ve found myself doing more things around the house and leaving the home more to pursue activities that I enjoy.
In addition to the support I am receiving, I have been connected with other services to help me maintain my help. For example, I’ve been connected with a local exercise group. It’s been a great way for me to socialise as well as stay active and mobile.
